Water Lillies

Hi Gang, it's been awhile since I posted to the list (almost a year). I
have a new question for you to help me out with. As some of you may
remember, I start my water lillies off in my aquariums in early spring to
give them a head start for the summer. (I live in Manitoba, Canada .... The
lillies don't get into my pond until June).

Here's my question. The goldfish I keep in my pond each year have had a few
problems over the winter. After searching around, the simple solution was
adding salt to the water to help the fish. (each fish shop said the same
thing, goldfish like a bit of salt in the water). I now have the tanks with
a concentration of 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons. Fish are
doing GREAT! What I'd like to know is, if I start the waterlillies off in
the tanks again this year, will the salt in the water affect the
waterlillies at all??

I know regular aquarium plants don't mind the salt, I'm just unfamiliar
with whether the lillies will be affected. If they will I'll make the water
changes before the end of March.....

Thanks in Advance!!

Ernest
