Sometime ago, I too had problems finding the above when I was building a
DIY hood for a friend. What I did was to use the innards of the 4 ft ones
and screw on the lamp holders, ballast and carefully staple the mess of
wires into the hood. That way you also have more space to squeeze 4 lamps
into the hood. I know you said you're not much of an electrician, but all
you have to do is to remove the 'body' and reflector and fix everything
into the hood. It is a good idea to fix all the ballasts to the back of the
hood (which is open) to vent away all the heat. Good luck.
