Sparrow asked about sand subsrates and the cleaning of it. Well I use sand cover for my "mud-mixed" substrate. When I do water changes, I get the syphon hose as close as I can to the bottom taking anything I can and leaving the sand alone. I do get some sand in this method but not much.
