John,

Duro-Test (201-808-1800) makes a Vita-Lite 20w spotlight that you can
make into a nifty pendant fixture with some track lighting equipment.  I
find that a few of them are able to provide adequate illumination right
down to the bottom on my 44 gallon pentagonal setup.  They're expensive,
though, at $39 each and the service is terrible.  Maybe converting one
of those compact flourescent recessed cieling reflectors into a pendant
light is the way to go, but they are expensive and bulky.  Good luck!
