I've read lots that talk about no snail in planted tanks: ie. they have a
good lunch at the plants expense.  I have a bunch of small unidentified
snails (pond snails I think) in my tank, and my plants are slow growers
(no added CO2), with no noticable plant grazing.

My advice:  If they don't bug you personally, leave them in.
