Getting Rid of Phosphate

Due to a complete and total hard drive failure all the archived postings I 
kept concerning phosphate control are gone and the internet connection is 
not yet on line nor do I have an estimated fix date.  Will some kind-hearted 
person please send me pertinent postings about removing phosphate.  Specific 
questions are:
1.  There was a thread about precipating phosphate out of the aquarium water 
using iron (??).  How was this done?
2.  When using phosphate removing resins, the resin substitutes something 
when removing the phosphate.  What is substituted?
