The condition of the skin that is likely here is "Cercarial Dermatitis"
which is a type of sensitivity reaction to the minute free-swimming larvae
(cercariae) of a fluke type of parasite in waterbirds. The snail is an
intermediate host for the parasite. As man is not a final host that the
parasite has evolved to parasitise the larvae die and create this reaction.
unfortunately the immune system "remembers" this reaction and further
exposure will produce an even more intense reaction usually.
The reaction is initially self-limiting but takes a week or two and most
Dermatologists have expertise in management.Isuggest your friend invest in
a good set of waders or a wet-suit for future cleaning episodes.
