I have had some luck catching some fish at night using a flash light. 
When they're still groggy ;-) and disoriented, you can sneak up behind
them with the net.  It didn't work for some of the faster and more alert
fish though, like my bala sharks.  I still haven't figured out how to get
those out of my tank.
