Humic acid

I paid a visit to my local hydrponics outlet on the weekend to
obtain supplies for PMDDs. I came across liquid and powder
form humic acid. This has been mentioned in some of the 
technical discussions about plants and absorption of
nutrients. Is this of any use in a planted aquarium?
