Dwarfing the Echonidorus sp.

     What pruning techniques can be used to keep the leaves of Echonidorus 
     sp. from shooting up aerial leaves?  I would like to encourage low, 
     wide leaf growth rather than narrow, aerial leaves.  I have a red e. 
     osirus.  Any suggestions?  I plan to also increase the blue proportion 
     of the lighting to encourage shorter, bushier growth (since I only 
     have a 14" tall 40 gallon tank.)  Any suggestions for this same 
     problem with Cryptocoryne sp.?
