PacoIII, my guess without any further description is hydra. These are a polyp (I believe) which will prey on small fry but is otherwise harmless. They are food to some fishes. I bet if you stop feeding for 4-8 days they disappear. Dave Gomberg, Experimenta San Francisco CA USA gomberg at wcf_com
