I use UGFs in all but one of my tanks and don't see that the UGF affects plant growth or vitality negatively. Plants planted in the substrate (Aponogeton, Echindorus, Crypts, Cabomba & Hygrophia) have extensive root systems. I've heard both sides of this debate and have decided that it's really a matter of preference. Happy Holidays everyone! Cynthia
