Re Tom Carr's question about the hardy yellow water lily.  Is the cultivar
Charlene Strawn or Chromatella?  Regarding some of the buds not opening, I
believe it is related to only receiving four hours of sun.  Most lilies
require at least six hours to flower well even though some of the books
will say four hours.  The plant just is not getting enough strength to put
up all the flower buds.  The one hardy lily that truly does not require a
full six hours is spatterdock, or pond lily, with quite an insignificant
flower.
