pruning hygrophila

Hi,

I have a couple hygrophila here in the office tank that just about to
grow emersed (a couple of young leaves is on top of the surface).

What is the best way to prune hygrophila? If I just cut the top off I'd
be left with an ugly plant 'cos the top part of the plant is the most
beautiful. Will the top regenerate soon enough?

If I pull the plant out, cut off the bottom (and roots),
and replant, would I shock the plant too much?

I can't just let the plants be 'cos it'll touch the fl. lamp in the hood.

Thanks,
KC
