[APD] LED Lights

I am running LED lights on all of my tanks (70 & 235) and highly recommend them - just watch the color spectrum and don't go above 8K. Keep them down close to the surface also. Minimal heat buildup and very efficient.

You can do it "backwards" too if the bulbs are a problem -- I swapped out the sockets on my Hamilton Lighting CF setup years ago so that I could use AH Supply's bulbs (which are a lot cheaper). Works fine. Just make sure any wiring you do is done with 105?C rated wire so that the heat doesn't cause problems for the insulation.

My main concern is to be able to grow plants with moderate light requirements (not the really high-light plants) while not overheating the tanks, especially in the summertime.

This is not something I'd anticipated based on minimal experience with small LED stick-on lights or keychain lights, and I'm wondering how much heat those powerful enough to light a 12 to 18 inch deep aquarium put out.
