They're usually fine unless you get liquids / gunk into them.
Occasionally I've seen an internal spring break, which should cause the
regulator to fail closed, but sometimes it will just result in poor
pressure regulation. Easiest solution: hook the regulator up and test it
-- if it seems to run consistently at about the right pressure you
should be OK.
