Off-the-cuff suggestion: AWE-some fishless cycling. ;)
Monitoring KH I hope? That seems one of the big issues for folks with low
to moderately low alkalinity water - which I think is your case as well, is
it not? It may make good Scotch, but if is iffy for some tank processes...
