Re: [APD] Activated Carbon and the Dangers of email

Just a quick note about carbons and phosphate. This is a reef tank
trick, where excess phosphate can definitely cause problems. You can
test for phosphate leaching by dropping a few grains of the carbon in a
phosphate test kit set up with tap water. Some brands are a lot worse
than others. I've seen brands where the carbon grains leave blue trails
as they sink into the test kit vial, and other brands where the test kit
vial remains completely clear. The ones that don't turn the phosphate
test blue worked well in my reef, so I'd assume they would work well in
freshwater for folks who want tight control of phosphate levels.
