I've seen this with my silver tipped Tetras.

They've identified you as enemy #1!

Try to let them see you when you feed them.

This may help them associate you with food.

Give them a place they can hide, usually a floating plant area they can swim 
under or an area they can swim behind at the back of the tank.

This won't happen over night sadly.
