Hi Nick,

There are some smaller varieties of pleco too that aren't so hard on plants.
I keep a clown pleco - Panaque maccus (max 4") - in one of my planted tanks.
He keeps the bogwood spotless but doesn't seem to bother the plants at all.

Have you seen the huge pleco's that live in the manatee tank at Busch
Gardens - Tampa?   There is also a nice display of african cichlids that
live in the hippo pond there.

Your koi would be fine with a pleco but he may have a hard time finding food
after awhile in an tank.  The koi would probably get everything first after
all the algae was gone.
