I would advise against thread. The first time I used it, my Pleco 
managed to get it caught up in it. It looped over the head and locked in 
place behind the gills. The slip knot I used kept getting tighter and 
eventually did a number on him, cutting in. I got it before it produced 
a fatal injury, but it would have led to it had I not gotten it in 
time.  It was pretty nasty business and the pain the poor thing went 
through was fairly evident... even for a Pleco.
