Hi Craig and All,
I had a similar problem when my Aquarium Hobbyist Supply 96W setup died
after three years.  It also uses a Workhorse 5 ballast.  It started to buzz
for a few days and then just went totally quiet and of course the bulb went
out.
I called the gentleman at AHS to order a replacement ballast and also order
two additional Brite Kits.  He recommended that I change the bulb, as
failures with the Workhorse 5 are apparently uncommon.
Well what do you know.  I replaced the bulb and everything works fine.  The
ballast is totally quiet.  Dang, I only got three years out of that bulb!
