A snipe is a bird.  Back when I was a kid, a favorite trick played on  
"city boys" by "farm boys" was to take them on a snipe hunt.  The  
"plan" was that the city boy would be given the privilege of holding  
an open bag on the ground while the farm boys would go chase the  
snipes into the bag.    This had to be done in the dark of night.  Of  
course the farm boys would just go off and laugh while the city boy  
would be stuck  holding the bag.   (Sorry a snipe isn't a fish - then  
I would be on topic!)
