[APD] Newbie Question

Hi all, I am very new to this hobby, and just trying out some DIY CO2 
setups. It may sound strange, but I am having trouble finding a test 
kit to see how successful my setups are. The pet store people look at 
me like I'm crazy when I ask about it, and I haven't had any luck 
online. Can you all recommend a) a good (cheap) test kit and b) a 
place to get it? Thanks!
