Not to mention that they are designed to filter maybe 1 or 2 thousand gallons or relatively clean water, so on any aquarium pump,  supposing that it could push the water through the filter, it would be maxed out in a very short time.
 
There are posts in the archives of folks that have tried using household filter elements and that has been one of the problems, they load up too quickly to be practical.

The problem is that the household filters are made for a 40 psi system, 
so nearly all of that 40 psi is available to drive the water thru the 
filter.  Not so for aquarium filters.  The little pumps we use develop 
less than 2 psi pressure at zero flow.  We need filters that give us a 
back pressure less than one psi.
