agree that tannins are not a problem but IMHO oils and resin probably  are. 
things that wont be a problem in the wild sure become one in a closed  
environment. conifers are rich with these. 
 
but  hey the idea of soaking in water and putting a few feeders in the  
bucket works for me.
 
i soak any and all driftwood before it goes into a tank anyway. i just dont  
know that you could ever get all the resin and oils out of pine and cedar.
