I have vals in a tank that has high light and I double dose the excell in that tank. No problems with the val. These are the shorter spirally vals. Can't remember if those are called contortion or corkscrew vals. 

I have had these vals melt every time I've used hydrogen peroxide to clear up an algae attack. They also need the light. They do not do well in the lower light tanks at all.
