I think you need a special tester for this and need to check back at the main box. I believe you have to induce the a current in each line hot and neutral (e.g., with a coil) and then measure for any current. If there is no load closing the circuit downstream, then if there is any current flowing than then there's a leak to ground downstream. Since the neutral is grounded at that main box, current will flow in the neutral wire if their is a neutral to ground fault downstream, say, if someone crossed the wires.

 
Probably easier and cheaper to try a new bulb and see if that works.
