The Python device is a bit diff than the connectors used for portable dishwahers. Those dishwasher are merely connectors and the valving is in the dishwasher -- one hose on the connector carries water form the tap to the dishwasher and the other carries water from the dishwasher pump to the connector and out. Also the pump is in the dishwasher, not in the connector.
 
The Python device has a manual valve--to control folw into or out of the aquarium, and is itself a pump, albeit one with one moving parts except for the water.

It's just a gravel vacuum that attaches to your faucet by way of a 
device very similar to those used to hook up portable dishwashers. You 
can use the force of the tap water to suck water out of the tank if you 
cannot develop a siphon for some reason. That is the source of waste.
