Re: [APD] Tom Barr's Estimative Index

"For eg:- he maintains that "excess Phosphate doesn't lead to algae bloom".

Nobody has to speak for or defend Tom. His contribution to the hobby
speaks for itself. It is well documented on the web.

Here and at other sites statements are usually meant to apply to conditions
in planted aquaria, not to the world in general.
Excess phosphates (and other nutrients) certainly do cause algae in natural
waters, as the experience of Chesapeake Bay and other estuaries and lakes
clearly demonstrate. But excess nutrients do not cause algae in well
planted, balanced aquaria, unless they are at extreme levels, and maybe even
then they would not.

EI is used by a lot of people who keep aquaria that require a lot of dosing.
Most users seem to say that it works for them.
There are other approaches, of course.
