I forgot to add:

Never sign for a registered letter unless the mailman catches you in 
person. Unless you are expecting a package, there's no need to answer 
the door if the mailman knocks. A registered letter never means 
something good. If you get a notice that they have a registered letter 
for you at the post office, place it in the round file. It's nothing you 
want anyway.

The only truer rule, as told to me by my father (who is a prosecutor), 
is "nothing good ever came from talking to the police."
