In audio it's used to decouple devices from the sourounding area, ie 
floor standing speakers, or say a pump for an air bearing turntable.  Or 
just to look cool under your electronics so your friends can ask what it 
is and get into semantic arguments about the physics of  
electromagnatism and why it does or does not help.
