I did try this with a Fluval 404. I was bubbling about 1.5 per second 
into the intake. Every two or three minutes I would get a spit of 
bubbles out of the spray bar that was very similar to what happens when 
you fist plug in the filter after cleaning it. It was very noisy and 
distracting to me, and I'm someone who leaves my computer running 24-7 
in the living room without noticing.
