I would say, not only would it not do any good, it might eventually do harm, since I thought nitrates do eventually become toxic to fish at high enough concentrations. Without plants to take up the NO3, where would it go? (Unless the BBA ate it all)

<Are you going to use the KNO3 in an unplanted tank?  I may be wrong but I don't think it will do any good. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)>
