Chris,
I just made a bubble counter for two DIY yeast CO2 generators, using a 
small glass pickle relish jar, with plastic tubes from household 
cleaner spray bottles epoxied and silicone sealed into holes in the 
lid.  I don't see any reason for it not to work well.  Total cost: 
$0000.
