Otoh, tempered is more likely to shatter if it breaks at
all, while nontempered glass is much more likely to just
crack. Cracked glass is much easier to deal with than glas
that shatters when broken.

Special heat/temperature tolerant glass (borosilicate liek
Pyrex, etc.) would be less likely to shatter with a sudden
temp change but will be very expensive and often what is
available in thicknesses greater 1/16th" is slightly
off-color.

I'd rather replace a cheap piece of glass that cracked that
deal with expensive glass or glass that shatters.
