Considering their size, I do not think you would:)
Big mats will grow during certain times of the year, when the NO3 is low(mid summer).
Common algal succession in FW limnology, it's in the scienctific research all over.

Everywhere" I've seen lots of different algae in the wild in the
ponds and rivers at my place but never this.
