The tanks is viewed from all 4 sides, and the front window shines on the most viewed side. I personally don't mind the algae, nor does my wife. (In fact she prefers the algae to a C02 canister)

Why not just let it grow on the rear glass?  It is a plant.  It oxygenates.
It consumes excess nutrients.  And it makes a nice green background.

And you wouldn't have to fight it anymore.
