[APD] Re: CO2 and Check Valves

As long as we're on the topic of CO2, does anyone have recommendation for a back flow check valve for a tank CO2 system? The last time I switched out my tank, I noticed that I had some siphoning of water from my diffuser back into my needle valve and regulator. No permanent damage, but not a good thing. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bill

Thank you Dave - I appreciate it! Was worried about using it until I found
out!
You don't need or want a washer with an o-ring. The o-ring
performs the same function as the washer. It does not need replaced unless
it is damaged. Just make sure you don't lose it when you disconnect the
regulatorto replace the CO2 tank.Dave

hi all,

there are some baby Semaprochilodus (large flagtail
characins) in the local store. they look very healthy
but they have these really dark areas under the gills.
what is it??? for some reason, these particular fish
show this condition in stores but i've never known
what it is. they don't seem diseased or stressed
though. thanks.

Hi all,
Magnesium in our water is 8 ppm. Chucks Calculator indicates magnesium should be 5 - 10 ppm. I change 50% of the tank water every week. Am I right in thinking I do not have to add magnesium? If I am wrong, and I have to supplement magnesium, how much?

Sorry about that. I don't live in Canada, but in the People's Republik of
Orygun. I do know that Flourite comes only in 15 lb bags. But had a brain
fart. Besides I use Eco-Complete now anyway and it does come in 20 lb bags!

Using the calculator at http://plantedtank.net/substratecalculator.html I
find that you will need 5 bags.

-Hey, nice calculator! I concur, if Canada indeed has *20lb* bags of Fluorite. Here in subCanada, they are offered in 15.4lb bags. 90lbs (36x24 at 3" depth) would be my original 6 bags.

Hi Folks,

Does anyone have an idea of the volume occupied by a bag (20 lbs) of
Seachem's Flourite? I'm planning setting up a custom made 80 gallon tank
(36"x24"x24") and as I've used Flourite in the past with success, I'd
like
to use it as the substrate for this new tank. B.T.W., I like a substrate
depth of between 2.5" and 4" (average depth of 3"), so I guess that I'll
need around 1.5 cubic feet of Flourite.

How many bags of Flourite (20 lbs each) does that translate into?
