Actually, I've read many many accounts of 'killer' ghost shrimp now; at first, I was very skeptical - but it seems that there are a lot of shrimp that are being sold as "ghost shrimp."  My guess is that they are some form of long-armed shrimp and will continue to make meals of your fish (I've even seen a picture of a 'ghost shrimp' attacking and eating a tiger barb.  Depending on how cold the temp gets in your house, they may be ok without a heater.  If it gets below 70, however, I probably wouldn't suggest it.
