RE: [APD] Hanna pH meter

Subject: [APD] Hanna pH meter

Has anyone got anything good or bad to say about the following pH meter?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4319815141

I'm thinking about getting one. Seems pretty reasonable for $25. I can
probably "borrow" pH buffers from work to calibrate it. Also any suggestions
on better value/quality meters would be nice.

Cheers

Clint

I have one, not quite the same as the one you are looking at. Mine gave up
the ghost 2 weeks out of warranty however when I contacted Hanna they agreed
to repair the unit on warranty. I could not return the unit directly and had
to take it to a dealer who mailed it to Montreal. I got the meter back about
6 weeks later with a bill for $40.00 as they diagnosed the problem as a
dirty probe which the dealer told me meant that the glass cover was dirty
and if he had one in stock he would have replaced it for nothing. The meter
was tested and the same problem existed, ie: it would not calibrate which
meant to me that nothing was done to correct the problem in the first place
even though they wanted $40.00. In any event it all turned out well in the
end as the company then agreed to replace the entire meter so I now have a
new model. The key to maintaining them is to soak the probe in PH 4 solution
or a acid based solution about once a month or so.
