I have used Liquid Nails, a clear caulk-like adhesive to seal leaks even
while the bottle was still closed under pressure. Clean the top near the
leak with alcohol, the liberally apply the Liquid Nails. You might also be
certain that there is no liquid in the gas line, and keep the generator
bottle on top of the tank until it is bubbling into the aquarium.
