Depending on the fishload, amount of driftwood and
driftwood gnawing fish, and your vacuuming regimen, mulm
can build up with almost any substrate, except perhaps
rocks, which I've never tried. I've used Fluorite,
Eco-complete, and Onyx sand in non-CO2 tanks (from 12-30
gal) and if I was setting up another, I would choose
between the three based solely on the appearance of the
substrate itself. The Eco is blacker, the Onyx greyer, and
the Flourite comes in two choices of redness.
