Ah a Piranha.  Are you by chance using the sturdy plant Vallisneria?  For
carbon they take carbonates out of the water.  If you are not providing CO2,
vallisneria will take the carbon out of the carbonates in the water instead.
I believe the plants produce acid to do this thus dropping the pH.  If this
is the case just add more bicarbonate as it is food for the plants.
