[APD] RE: dosing pump adding KNO3

"Here's a question about what has become know (over the objection of Mr.
Barr) as the Barr method. Hope I'm not covering old ground here.
Is there some advantage to dosing the nitrates two or three times a week
over continuous injection?"

No, not really that I can tell.

"In an attempt to minimize the time I spend dosing stuff in my tank, I use a
small peristaltic pump to continuously inject a solution of CSM+B, K2SO4 and
Sodium Phosphate (Fleet) into my tank. I then dose KNO3 two or three times a
week. Is there any reason why including the weekly dose of KNO3 in the fert
solution would not work as well, or is there a reason to "pulse" the
nitrate? If there is a reason to pulse, should I do so with all the ferts?
Douglas Guynn"

It'll work fine, maybe better since the dosing punmp dose not "forget" like
us feeble minded aquarist:-)
Some folks I've talked to recently have had some issues with CMS, some have
had better results over the long term with TMG or Flourish.

I'll get a Dosing pump eventually when I hook up all the tanks together
with a central filtration system.
Some folks use the evaporation top off or a drip system for this also, the
drip method is cheap and easy to do.

You can try a number of dosing routines if you have several drip units or
peristalic pumps and can dose Traces, NO3, PO4, K+ etc independently.
I plan on 4 pumps for this later.

Tom Barr
