I'm a biologist and one of the most important thing about living organisms
and dependences among them I learnt so far is the fact that they are far
more complicated than I can imagine. Ther's rarely one simple answer to the
question which has something to do with living organism. IMO
photorespiration, competition for NH4+, alleopathy, grazing and propably
some other things together give us the final result - almost no visible
algae.
