[APD] Barr Method Question

 Hello,

I have decided to try the "Barr Method" but have question. I am 
concerned about nutrient build up in the tank. Even with 50 % weekly 
water changes and assuming no plant up-take (bad assumption I know), the 
nutrient levels would continue to rise in the tank. How does one 
determine plant up-take (is there a rule of thumb?) in the tank without 
testing since Thomas Barr has indicated that testing isn't really 
necessary except to determine CO2 levels. Is it just a matter of testing 
until you get a "feel" for the nutriant levels in the tank over a period 
of time and then dose base on the your experience and appearance of the 
plants. Any assistance would be of help.
