These are not planting plans as such but very relevant to your question.

You could start with the many APD discussions on the subject the best of
which are thoughtfully collected by Erik within the Krib at
<http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/Plants/aquascaping.html>

You can read an article entitled "Technique and Composition in Aquascaping
and Aquarium Photography", that I wrote for The Aquatic Gardener - Vol. 12
No. 6 Nov-Dec 1999 <http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/TAGIndex/v12n6/>; you
can order it as a back issue. It was translated to Japanese for the Amano
magazine. An early draft of this article is in the APD archives as
"Aquascaping perfection"
<http://fins.actwin.com/aquatic-plants/month.9907/msg00654.html>

There is an excellent article at
<http://www.aquabotanic.com/zenaquascape.html> entitled "Zen Aquascaping" by
Ryan Stover.

The Nature Aquarium website features a Beginner's Manual for aquascaping at
<http://www.vectrapoint.com/main/manual/manual.html>. This covers the
important aspects of rock placement & detailed discussion of Amano tricks &
techniques. A more advanced section continues
<http://www.vectrapoint.com/main/manual/aquadesign.html>. This is the good
stuff!

You can order back issues of the Amano "Aqua Journal" magazines from the
Nature Aquarium website,  <http://www.vectrapoint.com/main/intro.html>

A few Amano aquascapes from the web:

<http://lucky.olomouc.com/gallery.htm >
<http://www.adaeurope.com/ >
<http://www.adana.co.jp/gallery.html >

George Booth has an article on aquascaping on his Aquatic Concepts website
at <http://aquaticconcepts.thekrib.com/> however this is more about
technical concerns than composition.

James Purchase wrote in 1999 APD archives
<http://fins.actwin.com/aquatic-plants/month.9907/msg00120.html> about "The
Natural Aquarium" (subtitle - How to Imitate Nature in Your Home), 1993 by
Satoshi Yoshino and Doshin Kobayashi. This was about the time that James
first conceived of an international contest & the genesis of our current AGA
contest.

There is a long discussion of aquascaping in the APD archives starting at
<http://fins.actwin.com/aquatic-plants/month.9907/msg00064.html> but I think
these are mainly captured by the Krib aquascaping section. Find more related
topics at <http://fins.actwin.com/search.cgi>
