I use a round replacement filter sponge at the inlet of my Aquaclear 300 in my 12 gal tank. Works as a pre-filter and keeps the main filter from getting clogged. I find that the aquaclear provides enough water movement + gas exchange for healthy fishes and lush plant growth.

I have a 10 gal tank with a aquaclear mini for filtration, no UGF, sand substrate and a few guppy fry. I would like to add a powerhead to move some water. Is there some type of foam prefilter that will fit over the intake to avoid sucking up the fish or sand???
