Ad Konings just wrote an article in the most recent TFH that actually will
clear Vallisneria of algae. Hematilapia oxyrhynchus and Cyathochromis
obliquidens. Neat pictures of the fish in action. He does note that no
one has reported this behavior in the aquarium.
